The Lillian Lectures
Author: Wendy Agnew
Publisher: Coach House Books
Hide under your bed! Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret meets South Park in The Lillian Lectures, a collection of short poems and cheerfully nasty illustrations that will turn your universe on its head. Remember how strange you thought sex and God were when you were little? Six-year-old Melanie is weirder and naughtier than you ever were, and now she's passing her wealth of wacky wisdom on to her little sister, Lillian. Your mom would never let you play with them, but you sure would have wanted to; Melanie is the ultimate bad influence.
This text explores the extreme right in order to assess its ideological meaning and political expression. Beginning with a discussion of the usefulness of the left-right distinction, it deals with the varied significance of the term 'right' and analyses the right's post-war evolution across Europe.
Parties of the extreme right have experienced a dramatic rise in electoral support in many countries in Western Europe over the last two and a half decades. This phenomenon has been far from uniform, however, and the considerable attention that the more successful right-wing extremist parties have received has sometimes obscured the fact that parties of the extreme right have not recorded high electoral results in all West European democracies. Furthermore, the electoral scores of these parties have also varied over time, with the same party recording low electoral scores in one election but securing high electoral scores in another. This book, available in paperback for the first time, examines the reasons behind the variation in the electoral fortunes of the West European parties of the extreme right in the period since the late 1970s. It proposes a number of different explanations as to why certain parties have performed better than others at the polls and it investigates each of these different explanations systematically and in depth. As well as offering a comprehensive analysis of the reasons behind the uneven electoral success of the West European parties of the extreme right, this book provides up-to-date information on all right-wing extremist parties that have contested elections at national level across Western Europe since the late 1970s. In addition to examining the parties' ideology and organisation, it discusses their relationship with the parties of the mainstream, and it investigates the impact that electoral institutions have on their ability to attract votes. This book is aimed at both scholars and students interested in the extreme right, in party politics and in comparative politics more generally.
This original, provocative work makes a thorough and comprehensive enquiry into the relationship that exists between firms and markets, with separate, in-depth examinations of both the existence and inner organisation of the firm. Sautet develops an accomplished and convincing theory that encompasses a wealth of existing literature and leads it in an entirely new direction.

The Ruodlieb, an anonymous narrative poem dating from the 11th century, is widely acknowledged to be one of the most interesting pieces of latin literature to have survived from the Middle Ages, albeit in a fragmentary state. The poem describes the fortunes of a young knight in a foreign country and on his return home, embodies many features both of medieval latin epic and of vernacular works such as the Nibelungenlied, looking forward in many aspects to the courtly romances of Chretien de Troyes. It thus stands in both latin and vernacular traditions, and is consequently of great interest not only to the medieval latin specialist but also to the student of medieval literature and culture in general. The text is based on a fresh examination of the existing manuscript fragments, and takes into account all previous editions: an apparatus criticus is appended. The introduction tackles questions of date and provenance, grammar, metre and literary background, whilst the commentary deals with points of philological, literary and cultural interest. Latin text with facing-page English translation, introduction and notes.

The high degree of internet penetration and its social (and linguistic) effects evidently influence how people, and especially the highly susceptible younger generations, use language. The primary aim of the book is not only to identify the characteristic features of the digital language variety (this has already been done by several works) but to examine how digital communication affects the language of other mediums of communication: orality, handwritten texts, digitally created but not digitally perceived, that is printed texts, including in particular advertisements (which quickly respond to linguistic change). Naturally, the book presents the characteristics of the digital language variety (and coins the term digilect) but only to give a framework to the impact analysis. It is important to document changes in progress and thus direct attention to potential outcomes. The current linguistic change is different from previous ones primarily in its speed and form of spreading, and it not only brings innovative grammatical forms and writing/spelling solutions but may also have far-reaching cultural and educational consequences in the long run.
Originally developed by James McCartney in 1996 and now an open source project, SuperCollider is a software package for the synthesis and control of audio in real time. Currently, it represents the state of the art in the field of audio programming: there is no other software available that is equally powerful, efficient or flexible. Yet, SuperCollider is often approached with suspicion or awe by novices, but why? One of the main reasons is the use of a textual user interface. Furthermore, like most software packages that deal with audio, SuperCollider prerequisites a series of skills, ranging from expertise in analog/digital signal processing, to musical composition, to computer science. However, as the beginner overcomes these initial obstacles and understands the powerful flexibility of SuperCollider, what once were seen as weaknesses become its strengths. SuperCollider's features also mean versatility in advanced software applications, generality in terms of computer modelling, and expressivity in terms of symbolic representations. This book aims at providing a brief overview of, and an introduction to, the SuperCollider programming environment. It also intends to informally present, by employing SuperCollider, a series of key notions relevant to what is broadly referred to as computer music. Andrea Valle is a researcher/aggregate professor in film, photography and television at the University of Turin-DAMS, and is active as a musician and composer. He has been a SuperCollider user since 2005.

Die Chronik Der Sperlingsgasse
Author: Wilhelm Raabe
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
Wilhelm Raabe, (Pseudonym: Jakob Corvinus; * 8. September 1831 in Eschershausen; + 15.
What Is Film?
Author: Julie N. Books
Publisher: Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften
In What Is Film?, Julie N. Books critically evaluates three philosophical doctrines of film realism (transparency, illusionism, and perceptual realism) and defends her view that films are creative works of art. By examining contemporary films, such as computer-animated films and films with computer-generated images, Dr. Books shows how films are creative works of art, thereby undermining the long-held view that films are slavish recordings of reality. This book is ideal for academics and courses on the philosophy of film, film theory, film history, filmmaking, metaphysics, and the philosophy of art.
