The Diary of a Young Girl

Lope de Vega "single-handedly created the Spanish national theatre," writes Roberto Gonzalez Echevarria in the introduction to this new translation of "Fuenteovejuna." Often compared to Shakespeare, Moliere, and Racine, Lope is widely considered the greatest of all Spanish playwrights, and "Fuenteovejuna" ("The Sheep Well") is among the most important Spanish Golden Age plays. Written in 1614, " Fuenteovejuna" centers on the decision of an entire village to admit to the premeditated murder of a tyrannical ruler. Lope masterfully employs the tragicomic conventions of the Spanish "comedia" as he leavens the central dilemma of the peasant lovers, Laurencia and Frondoso, with the shenanigans of Mengo, the "gracioso" or clown. Based on an actual historical incident, "Fuenteovejuna" offers a paean to collective responsibility and affirmation of the timeless values of justice and kindness. Translator G. J. Racz preserves the nuanced voice and structure of Lope de Vega's text in this first English translation in analogical meter and rhyme. Roberto Gonzalez Echevarria surveys the history of "Fuenteovejuna," as well as Lope's enormous literary output and indelible cultural imprint. Racz's compelling translation and Gonzalez Echevarria's rich framework bring this timeless Golden Age drama alive for a new generation of readers and performers.

Hopscotch is the dazzling, freewheeling account of Oliveira's astonishing adventures.

We all face obstacles and problems in life which often brings us to a standstill. Many people do not know what to do when their relationships go wrong, for example. Others would like to be more daring, more decisive or more successful. Yet, something gets in the way and they finally give up. When faced with adverse or unfamiliar circumstances, our natural reaction is to become anxious and negative. A No.1 bestseller in Spain already (over 30,000 copies sold since May 2010), this book is designed to transform your outlook to life. By examining how the human brain works and seeing what is hidden in the depths of our minds, the author demonstrates how we can transcend the limits that our mind sets us. And consequently, we can control and overcome those automatic reactions (of fear and anxiousness) when faced with obstacles and problems in our daily lives. Reinventing yourself does not mean becoming someone different, but instead, it means bringing our real self to the surface. It is in this new area of possibilities where creativity flows, along with the confidence and energy to transform our outlook to life.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a philosophical novel by Oscar Wilde, first published complete in the July 1890 issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. The magazine's editor feared the story was indecent, and without Wilde's knowledge, deleted roughly five hundred words before publication. Despite that censorship, The Picture of Dorian Gray offended the moral sensibilities of British book reviewers, some of whom said that Oscar Wilde merited prosecution for violating the laws guarding the public morality. In response, Wilde aggressively defended his novel and art in correspondence with the British press, although he personally made excisions of some of the most controversial material when revising and lengthening the story for book publication the following year.

Coffee, Sex and Law
Author: Avril Rose
Publisher: Addictive Publishing
Enemies or lovers? Liam, a successful young lawyer, is allergic to love. He’s always between business trips and, devastated by a dark secret, he has put a lock on his heart. That’s the way he likes it. But when he crosses paths with Zoe, all his principles fly out the window. Zoe is the opposite of his usual conquests: natural, funny, impetuous... and she has no plans to make room in her life for a man. *** I watch her delicate hands work over my torso, becoming intoxicated by her scent rising to meet me from her neck. “I’m so sorry,” she insists, now scrubbing the fabric with concentration, taking breaks to dab her forehead with her arm. She’s damaging my designer shirt. Instead of pointing that out to her, I observe her every movement. I surprise her a few times as she nibbles her thumb. A habit that reveals how nervous she actually is. “I’ll pay for the dry cleaning, of course. And free coffee for a week.” I don't reply. I resist the temptation to run my hand through her long, silky hair. I find her beautiful: her fragility, embarrassment, simplicity. “A month?” she offers, obviously worried by my silence. “It’s fine for the coffee. A week and we’re even,” I reassure her. "For the dry cleaning, I'll take care of it. Don’t worry about the clothes. It could happen to anyone.” She stops and looks at me, smiling, relieved by my pacifist reaction. “I think your shirt is ruined,” she announces, nibbling her lower lip. “Yeah, I think you’re right about that!” I agree, laughing. I’m speechless when she starts working on my pants, kneeling down between my legs. Is this a joke? I thought this kind of thing only happened in movies!
Except there’s nothing funny about the position. On the contrary. The pressure she’s putting on my crotch awakens sensations in my entire body. My imagination becomes quickly uncontrollable. I want her. Forbidden thoughts start to creep into my mind. To touch her. Caress her. Kiss her. She suddenly stops, as if she had heard my inappropriate thoughts. Time stands still for a second, and the noise of the café customers dies down. Here we are, the two of us, completely isolated from the rest of the world. *** After the success of Challenge Me, Avril Rose is back with a funny and touching romance told by two distinct voices. Love, Law, and Lattes: A brewing romance, Avril Rose, complete novel

Beseeched by his dying mother to locate his father, Pedro Paramo, whom they fled from years ago, Juan Preciado sets out for Comala. Comala is a town alive with whispers and shadows - a place seemingly populated only by memory and hallucinations. Built on the tyranny of the Paramo family, its barren and broken-down streets echo the voices of tormented spirits sharing the secrets of the past. First published to both critical and popular acclaim in 1955, Pedro Paramo represented a distinct break with earlier, largely "realist" novels from Latin America. Rulfo's entrancing mixture of vivid sensory images, violent passions, and inexplicable sorcery - a style that has come to be known as "magical realism" - has exerted a profound influence on subsequent Latin American writers.
